What bergamot is

Grown mainly in Calabria in southern Italy, this citrus fruit gives a peel oil that smells bright, fresh and faintly bitter, with a floral edge. Perfumers usually place it in the top notes, where it brightens an opening and blends easily with florals, woods and musks. It is less sharp than lemon and a little more complex.
